Events and News
The TFSC offers a robust slate of programs that foster community, enhance teaching practice, and support faculty at every stage in their career. Signature events include New Faculty Orientation, the Faculty Lunch Series, Teaching Camp, and the Winter Teaching Symposium, which provide tailored learning opportunities for both new and experienced instructors. Together, these events underscore the university’s commitment to cultivating excellent teaching and a supportive faculty community.
New Faculty Orientation
The TFSC and the Office for Faculty Affairs host New Faculty Orientation each fall before classes begin. This day-long orientation helps introduce faculty to the university at large and connects them with resources to be successful. New faculty will automatically be inivted to the new faculty orientation. The TFSC also offers additional resources for new faculty to help them thrive at the U of A.
Faculty Lunch and Learn Enrichment Series
New faculty and not-so-new faculty are invited to participate in a monthly lunch series to connect with other peers across campus, engage with university leadership on important initiatives and discover how the U of A can support their success. While faculty can attend the lunches for free, a reservation is required. Upcoming faculty lunches will be listed under the TFSC Event Calendar below and on the campus calendar with information on how to register.
Teaching Camp
The Teaching and Faculty Support Center hosts Teaching Camp where faculty spend time reflecting on teaching, engaging with other teachers, and learning new classroom techniques. Camp is an informal 2 day opportunity to focus on one or more aspects of teaching in a relaxed, off site venue local to Northwest Arkansas. All programming is provided free of charge and lunches are included as well. Any full time faculty (instructor, tenure, non-tenure track) or teaching staff can apply. Applications are required, and details are emailed to faculty each spring.
Winter Teaching Symposium
The Winter Teaching Symposium, a half-day event to start off the Spring semester. Beginning with breakfast and remarks by campus administrators, a topical program is offered and followed by a variety of faculty-lead breakout sessions.
Teaching Conferences
Several international, national, regional and local conferences are held each year that focus on the art and science of teaching and allow faculty to connect with their peers at other institutions. The TFSC encourages faculty to attend these conferences and offers grants to support conference travel. View a list of available conferences and more information about conference funding.
