Additional Teaching Support
The Teaching and Faculty Support Center supports faculty at every stage of their teaching journey. Whether you are new to the classroom or an experienced instructor, you’ll find guidance on course design, syllabus development, and creating engaging learning experiences for your students. TFSC also encourages faculty to expand their impact through innovative teaching approaches, including developing study abroad and service-learning courses or designing an online class. Additional opportunities for growth include participating in seminars, conferences, shared governance, and other campus initiatives.
Classroom Support
Enhance Student Learning
Faculty can work with the Study Abroad Office and submit a proposal for study abroad program. Faculty can also serve as advisors or seek international professional development opportunities.
Create a free textbook for your students or adopt an Open Educational Resources (OER) book for your course. OER encourages the use of textbooks and other materials for free or low cost. By developing high-quality shared texts, the academic community can dramatically lower the cost of textbooks and class materials for students.
The Global Campus supports academic colleges and schools in the development of new online and distance education offerings from the University of Arkansas. They will work with you to develop goals and objectives for expanding and enhancing online and distance education offerings.
Professional Developement and Leadership Opportunities
There are several opportunities for faculty to learn how to take students abroad. These programs often involve the faculty member going to another country and taking classes on location about how to engage students in meaningful ways.
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Arkansas is a member‐driven, service organization, primarily serving adults, 50 years of age and older. OLLI provides a community of adults with a lifelong learning through high quality and affordable educational and social programs. Current and retired university faculty can teach a class and share their knowledge on a wide variety of topics.
The Faculty Senate is the faculty’s primary governing body and oversees academic policies and advises on issues affecting faculty roles, working conditions, and research. Senators serve two-year terms, and faculty interested in serving on the Faculty Senate can self-nominate for the annual elections that are held each spring.
Quality mentorship is crucial to faculty and student success. The Office for Faculty Affairs offers Peer Mentoring Circles and workshops to become more effective mentors to graduate students. Faculty who serve as a Peer Mentoring Circle Facilitator receive a stipend of $1,000.
Make plans to attend a conference to help enhance your teaching. A variety of international, national, regional and local conferences are held each year, and faculty can apply for grants to help with travel costs.
